Iresha is an existing BMI client from a village in the Anuradhapura District. Iresha is engaged in the grocery business for the past two years. She took her first loan amounting to LKR 30,000/- from BMI in 2012 to develop the business.
The shop has captured the local area market and has a substantial number of clients. She earns an average income of LKR 20,000/- per month. However, Iresha finds she is unable to cater to all her customers’ needs since the shop does not have the capacity to meet that demand. At the same time, she does not have enough reserves to invest in the expansion of the shop either.
As such she has applied for her second loan of LKR 50,000/- from BMI. She hopes to use the loan money to purchase the required inputs to expand the grocery shop. She is married and her husband works as a driver whenever work is available. Iresha has a son who is 4 years old and is attending kindergarten.
Since this business is their main income source, she is eager to make it successful to earn a higher income for her family. At present the shop is run at a small level and in the future she wishes to improve it to the next level and be stable enough to start a saving for her son’s future.
