Jeewika is a BMI client from Hakahinna area in Kegalle district. She lives there with her two children, parents and brother. Jeewika is engaged in dress making and has around 25 years of experience in the field.
Although she had lot of experience she was initially facing financial difficulties to expand the business. Due to that, she joined BMI to obtain a loan in 2010 April and took LKR 25,000. She used the money to service the old machine she has and get other raw materials required for her business. The business began to grow and to facilitate its growth she had taken her second loan of LKR 50,000 from BMI in 2011 September. She used the money to purchase more varieties of clothes and improve the quality of her produce. Her current income is around LKR 25,000 per month.
Now Jeewika is planning to purchase a new Juki machine to improve and diversify the dresses she makes. To finance this she has applied for the third loan of LKR 65,000 from BMI. She also hopes to use part of the money to buy fabric materials in bulk as well.
Jeewika’s wish is to carry out a successful business that will earn her a higher income. She has lots of plans for her two children and reckons that this business will enable her to secure them a good future.
